The API High Range pH Test Kit reads the pH of water within the high range of 7.4 – 8.8.
Testing for high pH prevents the harmful effects of too alkaline/too acidic pond water resulting from minerals found in tap water, high ammonia levels in the pond, rain runoff or overstocking of pond fish.
A pH of 7.0 is considered ideal for plants and fish in the pond. Some species of pond plants, such as water lilies and water hyacinths thrive in slightly acidic pH below 7.0. Pond fish prefer an alkaline pH above 7.0. Therefore, an acceptable pH range is between 6.8 and 7.6.
